HRC Equality Convention & National Dinner Highlights “Tango” Guide Banning Case
Partner Lauren Zimmerman spoke about why she “Shows Up” in the fight for equal rights at the Human Rights Campaign’s (“HRC”) Annual Equality Convention in Washington, D.C. this past week.
In this presentation, Lauren discussed the First Amendment case she is litigating on behalf of the authors of “And Tango Makes Three” (“Tango”), a children’s publication that was removed or restricted in several Florida school districts for its positive message about Gay families. U.S. Democratic Vice President candidate Tim Walz spoke at the HRC National Dinner following the convention, highlighting the need to defend LGBTQ+ rights ahead of the 2024 election. In his speech, he spoke about the fight to protect Tango and books like it in general schools, calling out manual bans as one of the challenges facing our country.
