Why do gay men like dicks

In a sexual context, bottoming is the act of taking a dick (or a dick-shaped object) in your ass. When it comes to gay and bi men, a lot of people seem considerate of obsessed with functional out who’s a top/giver and who’s a bottom/receiver, but in reality many MSM (men who own sex with men) perform both and some execute neither. In 2021, it’s painfully heteronormative to presume that sexual intercourse has to involve a hole being filled by something cock-shaped.

On one level, bottoming is really no huge deal – if you like riding dick, travel ahead and ride it. But on another, butt-fucking is still cloaked in myth and stigma. “There’s an association that those who bottom are feminine and those who foremost are masculine,” says Ian Howley, CEO of the health and wellbeing help LGBT HERO. “And we all know where that stigma comes from: Hello, toxic masculinity.”

Happily, Howley says this reductive presumption is finally dying out as we all become more open-minded. “You now notice lots of ‘masculine’ men who enjoy bottoming, including straight men who finally found out just how much pleasure they can get from their arse,” he says. Some even like to define themselves as a “p

Sexual health for queer and bisexual men

Having unprotected penetrative sex is the most likely way to pass on a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

Using a condom helps guard against HIV and lowers the risk of getting many other STIs.

If you’re a man having sex with men (MSM), without condoms and with someone modern, you should have an STI and HIV try every 3 months, otherwise, it should be at least once a year. This can be done at a sexual health clinic (SHC) or genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic. This is important, as some STIs do not lead to any symptoms.

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A is a liver infection that's spread by a virus in poo.

Hepatitis A is uncommon in the UK but you can fetch it through sex, including oral-anal sex ("rimming") and giving oral sex after anal sex. MSM with multiple partners are particularly at risk. You can also get it through contaminated food and drink.

Symptoms of hepatitis A can materialize up to 8 weeks after sex and comprise tiredness and feeling sick (nausea).

Hepatitis A is not usually life-threatening and most people make a complete recovery within a couple of months.

MSM can elude getting hepatitis A by:

    I’m scared of bottoming

Most gay men will contemplate bottoming at some period. However, the thought of doing it for the first time can be scary. Don’t let that put you off.

You may prefer to douche before bottoming, especially if indulging in deep arse compete like fisting or with large dicks/toys. Use plain, clean water, preferably at body temperature. Avoid using shower attachments - the water pressure can be dangerous. You can procure douche bulbs online or from any good sex shop. Try not to go overboard and irritate the lining of your arse, as this can make you more vulnerable to STIs.

Get yourself relaxed with lots of foreplay like rimming or fingering. Some men do exploit amyl nitrate (poppers) to relax the muscles around their arse but there are two major health warnings. Poppers:

    • have been linked with an increased chance of HIV transmission
    • don’t mix with erection drugs appreciate Viagra and may bring about a heart attack.

Deep breathing is far safer, helps you to relax and relaxes the arse too.
