Is oral sex within marriage wrong?
Bible Question:
Is oral sex within marriage wrong? Does the Bible say anything against oral sex?
Bible Answer:
Oral sexual activity is sex. If a woman received oral sex it is called cunnilingus and if received by a male is called fellatio. The Bible never discusses oral sex directly.
God Encourages Spouses to Enjoy Sexual Activity
The Bible has a lot to say about sex. Sometimes God warns us to not engage in certain sexual activities, and on other occasions He encourages us to enjoy sexual romps with one’s spouse. For example, in Proverbs 6:23-26 we are warned to avoid having sex with someone who is not our husband or wife. Then in 2 Timothy 2:22, we are warned to flee all other kinds of sexual sins. Sexual activity outside of marriage is forbidden.
But within marriage, God encourages a husband and wife to have sex. Genesis 1:28 is a great example.
And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth . . . ” Genesis 1:28 (NASB)
Here God instructions Adam and Eve to engage in sexual action including intercourse in order to populate the earth. This command has never been revoked. In fact, it was repeated in Ge
“You want to shove those words back in and put the lid on. But you can’t. Your child is gay. This goes against everything you’ve been taught. It was not what you had in mind, and you instantly wonder where you went wrong.”
When you turn into a parent, you comprehend to expect the unexpected. But for many Christian parents, nothing can equip them to hear that their beloved child is gay. This is the child you have cradled, spoon fed mashed bananas, and dreamed a lovely future for. How could this be? What will the church say? What will your friends say? What does the future hold? You can’t even get your head around this.
If you are a Christian parent, family member or friend to whom your loved one has come out as same-sex attracted or lesbian, then this is for you.
I encourage you to sit down, relax, maybe get a cup of tea, and soak in what I’m about to tell you. My hope is to guide you as we walk for a bit through this maze of confusion, to help you find your way to wholeness. In many Christian circles, this is not good news, and you may begin to spiral into reflection and self-searching. We’ll get to that. But at the bottom of it all, this is not about you. Most parents’ first mistake is to mak
Morning friends,
Thanks for your participation on the blog. That’s what makes the collective. Can you believe I’ve been doing a weekly blog for over 10 years? We’ve made some progress in educating Christians and the church regarding the reality of overuse in marriage. But even on this blog, we still hear from people who believe that it’s more important to God to stay married no matter what. Even if that marriage is toxic and dangerous, some think it’s better to silently suffer than, to be honest, speak up and invite the abuser to repentance and change.
Many of you here have been with me since the beginning and are quite wise. Don’t be dismayed by those who persist to think differently than we do. This is our opportunity to demand questions, to respectfully dialogue, and to help them consider that there might be more important things to God than just staying married at all costs.
Question: Do I hold a Biblical right to say no to sexual practices I don’t crave to do? My husband uses the Bible to make me feel remorseful when I don’t desire to have sex every day or do certain things that I locate painful or disgusting. What is my wifely role here?
Answer: This is a very common qu
What is a Christian couple allowed to do in sex?
Answer
The Bible says that “marriageshould be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will determine the adulterer and all the sexually immoral” (Hebrews 13:4). Scripture never says what a husband and wife are or are not allowed to accomplish sexually, so how can we comprehend if something is sexually permissible between a husband and wife? The Bible gives us general principles regarding sex within marriage:
1. Sex is to be God-honoring — Our bodies are meant to glorify the Lord, not to be controlled by our passions and not to be used for sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:12–13). “Therefore honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:20).
2. Sex is to be exclusive — Sex is between a husband and wife only (1 Corinthians 7:2).
3. Sex is to be loving and other-oriented — First Corinthians 7:3–4 instructs, “The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not contain authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have rule over his possess body but yields it to his wife.” Each spous
