A Brazilian soccer celestial body has sparked social media controversy after posting a photo of playfully himself kissing another dude.

As Yahoo! Sports reported, Emerson Sheik (birth name: Márcio Passos de Albuquerque), who plays for the Brazilian team Corinthians, celebrated a recent victory by giving a male friend a smooch in a moment on Instagram:

Beneath the photo, the player included a caption written in Portuguese. According to a translation provided by Global Voices, the caption peruse as follows:

You’ve got to be very brave to celebrate friendship and not be scared of what prejudiced people will speak. You’ve got to be very free to celebrate a victory like this, openly, with a friend who is always there for you.

The snapshot posthaste sparked an onslaught of anti-gay comments, despite the truth that Izac Azar, the man seen kissing Sheik in the photograph and also the top chef of the restaurant where the player was celebrating with his girlfriend at the hour, is both married and a father-to-be. Last week, a group of Corinthian supporters reportedly descended upon the team's training site with banners protesting the kiss.

Being openly gay in Saudi Arabia used to be a death sentencebut times are changing

Note from Al-Fatiha: Although this article portrays Saudi Arabia as organism some-what tolerant towards sexual minorities, the government still officially endorses the death penalty as a punishment for male-to-male sex. Additionally, the government of Saudi Arabia is very intolerant towards gender minorities including transgender-identified and transvestite immigrant domestic workers. Many sexual and gender minorities have fled Saudi Arabia and sought asylum in other countries due to family pressures, societal ostracizing, and political dissenting.

The execution-style killing ofan openly gay imam, Muhsin Hendricks, in South Africa has left people in the LGBTQ+ society fearful for their security - but also determined to forge ahead with the campaign to finish their marginalisation in religious circles.

Reverend Toni Kruger-Ayebazibwe, an openly gay Christian cleric, told the BBC that Hendricks was a "gentle spirit" who brought light into any room he occupied.

"The gap Muhsin leaves is massive," she said, adding that she knew for a fact that there were "a large number of queer Muslims around the world who are grief stricken".

The 57-year-old was shot dead in what appeared to be a hit on Saturday in the small coastal urban area of Gqeberha.

Initial reports that Cape Town-based Hendricks had been in Gqeberha to perform the wedding ceremony of a lgbtq+ couple have been dismissed as untrue by his Al-Gurbaah Foundation.

"He was visiting Gqeberha to officiate the marriages of two interfaith heterosexual couples when he was tragically shot and killed," it said in a statement.
