Marriage to Margaret Hamilton: Came from Londonderry, Ireland to Philadelphia; moved to Orange County, VA with daughter Eleanor. Came with the Kindeads, (Kincaids) Stevensons, Campbells, McElroys, McDowells, Grahams, Elliotts. Moved onto the Borden Tract, now Rockbridge County, VA.; Lived at Gay's Run,VA. [4]

They settled at the Calf Pasture (Calfpasture) near the border of Rockbridge County and August County, Virginia (Calf Pasture or Rocky Spring Settlement, Augusta County, founded in 1746).

Sharpsburg, MD – William Bantly “Packle” Gay, Sr. 83, of Sharpsburg, MD passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD.

William was born on August 23, 1939, in Dargan, MD to the late William Leroy “Scat” and Flossie Evelyn (Myers) Gay.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene Janet Gay whom he married on February 14, 1978.

William was employed by the National Park Service for the C&O Canal as a maintenance worker for 36 years until his retirement.

He was of the Christian faith.

William was a member of the Conococheague IORM Tribe #84 of Williamsport, MD and a life member of Potomac Valley Volunteer Fire Organization of Dargan, MD.

He loved horse racing and fishing. In his later years, he enjoyed going out to the mall to socialize with his friends.

William is survived by his sons William Gay, Jr. and his wife Ashley and Andrew Gay; brother Sonny Gay; brother Eugene Gay; sister Frances Hutchinson; brother Lloyd Gay; brother Jerry Gay; adopted brother Shannon Gay and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by william gay sr.

                                                                                A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 31, at 2:00 P.M. at the Farmville Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00.
