WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Human Rights Campaign and Autonomy for All Americans announced that more than 200 major companies have unified together to autograph on to the Human Rights Campaign and Freedom for All Americans Business Statement on Anti-LGBTQ+ Legislation. Together, these companies are merged in opposing the wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, much of which specifically harms transgender youth, in states across the country. The list of signatories has more than quadrupled in the past year.

“Every day, more and more major businesses are refusing to sit idly by as express legislators across the country push anti-transgender legislation and other bills affecting their LGBTQ+ workers, customers, and clients,” said Joni Madison, Interim President Joni Madison, Human Rights Campaign. “Cruel legislative attacks, especially against gender diverse youth, force employees to choose between states where they can p

Moms for Liberty (M4L) is one of the most prominent anti-LGBTQ extremist groups of its compassionate, but it isn’t working alone. Similar groups like Citizens Defending Freedom also push for manual bans and anti-LGBTQ school policies, all under the guise of asserting their so-called “parental rights” — a movement that doesn’t enclose LGBTQ and ally parents and children, families of tint, or any parent who wants their child to acquire an accurate and inclusive education.

M4L leaders and members also regularly collaborate with other anti-LGBTQ groups, local and national, to advance their shared agendas. This sprawling network comes in handy in states where community-led pushback against M4L has created negative name-recognition for the brand, offering opportunity for lesser-known but aligned groups.

Recent allegations of sexual assault lodged against Florida GOP Chairman Christian Ziegler — husband of M4L co-founder Bridget Ziegler — are sowing division within M4L. (Bridget herself was not named in the complaint against her husband.) After the accusations came to light, the Zieglers lost the assist of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, their longtime ally. LGBTQ Rights

The ACLU has a long history of defending the LGBTQ community. We brought our first LGBTQ rights case in 1936. Founded in 1986, the Jon L. Stryker and Slobodan Randjelović LGBTQ & HIV Project brings more LGBTQ rights cases and advocacy initiatives than any other national organization does and has been counsel in seven of the nine LGBTQ rights cases that the U.S. Supreme Court has decided. With our reach into the courts and legislatures of every state, there is no other organization that can match our log of making progress both in the courts of law and in the court of public opinion.

The ACLU’s current priorities are to end discrimination, harassment and violence toward trans people, to close gaps in our federal and state civil rights laws, to prevent protections against discrimination from being undermined by a license to discriminate, and to safeguard LGBTQ people in and from the criminal legal system.
