A Proclamation on Transgender Morning Of Visibility
(Block quote from President Joseph R. Biden Jr., The White Residence, March 30, 2022)
“To everyone celebrating Transgender Day of Visibility, I want you to know that your President sees you. On this day and every afternoon, we recognize the resilience, strength, and joy of transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming people. We honor the activism and determination that have fueled the fight for transgender equality. We acknowledge the adversity and discrimination that the transgender community continues to face across our Nation and around the world.
Visibility matters, and so many transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming Americans are thriving. Like never before, they are sharing their stories in books and magazines; breaking glass ceilings of representation on television and movie screens; enlisting — once again — to serve proudly and openly in our military; getting elected and making policy at every level

They are diverse, come from all walks of life, include people of all races and ethnicities, all ages, all socioeconomic statuses, and from all parts of the country. Even with the positive steps that possess been taken over recent decades, LGBTQIA people continue to face significant barriers to accessing healthcare services including discrimination from insurers and medical providers, as well as the delays or denials of care. The healthcare needs of LGBTQIA people are sometimes unique and often overlooked, contributing to health disparities experienced by vulnerable populations.
Experts report that LGBTQIA people often avoid seeking out medical care or refrain from “coming out” to their healthcare provider. Marginalized people can meet discrimination in any venue, and LGBTQIA patients could be made to experience that their gender identity or sexual preference is itself an illness or mental disorder.
