Seattle lgbtq bars raided
Marching into a same-sex attracted bar to issue citations feels a bit vintage in 2024. Nevertheless, over the weekend, the Joint Enforcement Team (JET), which is a coalition of Seattle Police, Passion, the state Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB), and others, entered The Cuff Complex and started looking around. LCB officials entered The Seattle Eagle and did the equal thing.
And what did they find? A bartender’s exposed nipple and a limited people wearing jockstraps, offenses that commandment enforcement can cite you for in Washington if you’re also selling alcohol.
At 12:30 on Saturday morning, a 10-member JET crew filed into Cuff, according to owner Joey Burgess. They came in with flashlights, scaring some patrons who left in a hurry. Inside, they saw the offending nipple, a violation of mention law the JET may penalize in some way.
Saturday late hours, two LCB officials entered the Eagle at 11:30 pm and inspected the premises, owner Keith Christensen said. He’s waiting on a call from them about the jockstraps and a potential citation.
According to a "JET Agenda," officials hit Neighbours on Friday and "observed" a "lewd deeds violation." They punch The Lumberyard on Saturday and registered no violations. Of th
Police, Fire, and the Liquor Board Raided Two Seattle Gay Bars
So many good comments. You know things are fucked up when the Seattle Times writes basically the same article criticizing the police (quoting Dan Savage no less). Even Bruce Harrell was like, What the Fuck?
"The challenge is that they had their bare asses hanging out, which is against the law."
Who gives a fuck. Seriously, someone driving way too fast, endangering your kid (or grand-kid) walking home from university, versus some dude with a tight ass uncovering it in a prevent that only those 21 and over can attend?
Priorities, assholes.
Just when you think the police can make a case for themselves, they undertake something really fucking ignorant, validating every dipshit anarchist out there. Fuck the Police? Yeah, OK. This time. And the last time. Oh, and the time before that. But, you know, some of them are good, and want to do wonderful things and criminals suck too ...
Come on cops, get your shit together.
WA LGBTQ Caucus responds to recent raids at Seattle-area gay bars
The Washington Declare Legislative LGBTQ Caucus released the following statement Friday:
“As members of the Washington State Legislature’s LGBTQ Caucus, we were deeply impacted by the unacceptable actions taken by the Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB) on Jan. 26 and 27 at Seattle-area queer bars many of us have visited over the years. The manner of the Board’s enforcement inspections caused immediate fear and trauma to the patrons, shattering their sense of safety. Without immediate deed, this breach of confide in risks doing lasting hurt between our community and the LCB. This enforcement tactic spread fear and impacted people outside of the LGBTQ community as well. We stand with them too.
“We are haughty to live and assist in a state that is a beacon of hope and safety to LGBTQ individuals and families from across the nation. We wish to increase our support and pledge to ensuring that confide in is not misplaced by an agency whose career it is to produce safe communities.”
The Washington Liquor and Cannabis Board has paused lewd actions enforcement following fierce backlash from the LGBTQ community over raids of Seattle gay bars.
In a news release, the board also announced it was suspending participation in the City of Seattle’s Joint Enforcement Team and that no citations or violations would be issued to licensees impacted from the Jan. 26-27 “visits.”
Inspectors took issue with a bartender’s exposed nipples and people wearing jockstraps inside the Cuff Complex and Seattle Eagle — two leather bars located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
The owner of Cuff told reporters that police and blaze personnel entered the bar using flashlights and photographed patrons.
“This is unacceptable and a painful reminder of the benign of prejudice and bigotry the Homosexual community experienced for decades,” Washington Sen. Marko Liias said. “We must earn to the fact of why and how this happened and ensure businesses aren’t being targeted because of the people they serve.”
Ironically, Seattle city code permits public nudity, but not inside a business that sells alcohol.
At the board’s Jan. 31 meeting, queer activist Dan Savage blasted authorities for invading sa
