I am graduating from med school/residency and the VA in WV has made me a very good offer because, using their own words, "nobody wants to shift here."

I assume living in WV would be nice but, as a gay male, am wondering if there is any type of lgbtq+ (professional) community, gay bars, et cetera there..

Thanks in advance

Ask GHO, as he is our resident expert...last year of college and has seen the scene...

I think their might be a gay bar in Morgantown, but Pittsburgh is right up the road...Cleveland a little farther...Columbus and DC over the hills...

For more than 30 years, the space at 335 High Street in Morgantown, West Virginia has been a gay bar, serving the state’s LGBTQ+ group and providing them a space to meet each other, perform, and convey themselves.

The establishment is currently known as Vice Versa, but in the starting of its history as an LGBTQ+ space, when it was first called The Class Act, patrons had to navigate a world that was frosty and violent to them before entering the protected haven of the bar.

“[The entrance] was in an alleyway, and there was no lighting in the alleyway. You snuck into the gay bar and you snuck out of the gay bar,” Vice Versa co-owner Montaz Morgan recalled from his moment at The Class Operate. “You didn’t wear ‘gay clothes.’ You brought queer clothes, and you changed into them, and then you’d put your clothes on when you left.”

The same rule applied to the entertainers, because the police were not on their side, even if they were attacked on their way home.

“The performative queens didn’t come here already ready, they all came here to receive ready, and didn’t quit until they changed out of their clothes [and makeup],” said Vice Versa co-owner James Yost.

Appalachia and inclusive aren’t two words that often go hand and hand, but Morgantown is other . For most heterosexual people living in West Virginia, they might not comprehend that Morgantown is one of the more socially inclusive towns in WV for the LGBTQ community. This is partly due to the efforts of the university to provide an inclusive campus and the popular gay club in town, Vice Versa.

Some people might not even realize that Vice Versa exists, especially if they aren’t in the LBGTQ people. The nightlife trial for gay people in Morgantown vastly differs than that of someone who only attends unbent bars. The atmosphere is “different.”

If you walk into a bar like Overweight Daddys or Joe Mamas around 12:30 a.m. on a Friday you’ll probably see men and women dressed in button downs and dresses/skirts. They might be listening to music or playing pool. It’s your typical college “bar” scene.

Walking into Vice Versa at 12:30 a.m. on a weekend you’re much more likely to see something enjoy this..
