Ford Unveiled a 'Very Gay' Truck in Response to a Homophobic Commenter
While the practice is, luckily, becoming more and more a thing of the past, there are sadly still people out there who will use the legal title "gay" as a pejorative. That kind of casual, everyday homophobia is less socially acceptable than it used to be—in part due to the truth that now people are more inclined to dial it out when they see or hear it. And that includes auto manufacturer Ford.
The European division of the auto colossal recently released a commercial advertising the new particular edition Ford Ranger Raptor, showcasing the vehicle's qualities in a Western-inspired video entitled The Good, the Bad and the Bad-R.S.E. (a slightly clumsy pun which plays on a British pronunciation of "badass"). Response to the ad was largely positive, and the majority of commenters appeared to be impressed with the new Raptor. One commenter from Germany, however, described the option of blue color as "very gay."
There is an argument to be made that when faced with such an immature, regressive comment, you should simply ignore it, so as to deny that individual of the attention they are trying
Ford Very Gay Ranger Raptor Makes Colorful Debut At Goodwood
Ford is going beyond last year's Very Gay Ranger with the new Very Gay Raptor. As the name implies, the truck uses the latest generation of the Ranger Raptor and dresses it in a Pride flag rainbow body and glittery gold accents. The truck will be part of a special presentation at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
In addition to taking a run up the hill there, the Very Gay Ranger's cargo bed will be the stage for sessions of what Ford calls "Tough Talks." Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomas, who is gay, is having conversations about how the auto industry can be more inclusive and foster allyship for the LGBTQ+ collective. The guests add racing driver Abbie Eaton, comedian Catherine Bohart, and Lord March.
Ford has not yet debuted the version of the latest Ranger for the United States. The company confirms that it and the Raptor version are coming in 2023, though. Film of them will take place at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne.
For Europe, the Raptor makes 288 horsepower (215 kilowatts) and 362 pound-feet (491 Newton-meters) of torque from a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. Elsewhere,
Hello there and thanks for stopping by! I post every day at 1pm central so accept a sec to sign up for email reminders. I write about all kinds of things from dating, camping, roller skating, and commercials like today’s post. For some reason Ford reflection it would be a good thought to release some feminine energy with this Raptor commercial. Will this judgment be a monstrous Bud Light-sized mistake (Bud Light, making alcoholics sober since 2023), or is it a stroke of genius? Examine out the ad and I’ll divide my thoughts below…

This isn’t the first time Ford has walked a pleasant line of organism “Ford tough” but also embracing their inner gayness. OK, that might be a stretch but there was another commercial featuring the Explorer “Men Only” edition which sort of belittled men and put women on a pedestal (check it here). Coupled with this gay Raptor commercial, what exactly is Ford saying about traditional male roles in society and culture?
My initial thought is that the commercial is dumb and out of touch. *Exaggeration upcoming* No same-sex attracted people buy these big trucks!
OK, maybe there is a soft, uncallous
Why Ford’s “Very Gay” Badass Truck Isn’t Woke
It’s typically not my practice to publicly celebrate when my judgements and insights validate correct, as no one appreciates a braggart. But I confess it’s often frustrating to see the media latch on to an issue I called attention to weeks earlier. One such example is Miller Lite’s obnoxious video promoting its program called, “Bad $#!T to Wonderful $#!T,” where it decried the company’s previous publish ads and those of competitors it deemed sexist and turned copies of them into fertilizer to grow hops for women brewers.
I called out Miller Lite’s video more than a month ago in my commentary about Bud Light’s questionable decision to anoint transgender TikTok gender diverse sensation Dylan Mulvaney as one of its logo ambassadors. The video, which was released in Rally to celebrate Women’s History Month, has surfaced in recent days and generating controversy because of its aggressive feminist tone. I’m heartened that even some women found the ad a turnoff. It’s a wonder that anyone, regardless of their gender identity, could watch the video and perceive Miller Lite as a desirable beer.
If the video doesn’t enco
Insight & Strategy | Ford: Very Gay Raptor
At the end of May 2021, Ford promoted its modern Ranger Raptor Special Edition pickup truck in Europe with an action-packed, adrenaline-inducing video that showed the vehicle outpacing a landslide.
About two weeks after the video was released, one YouTube viewer commented that the colour of the truck was ‘very Gay’, suggesting that Ford paint it ‘BlackNGold [sic] or camo’ instead.
In response, on 25 June, Ford tweeted a digital animation of the Raptor decked out with a recent rainbow and glittering gold paint job, along with the caption ‘Very Queer was a compliment right?’, Happy Pride, and #VeryGayRaptor.
London-based agencies VMLY&R, MakerHouse and Hill+Knowlton Strategies, then worked with Ford to create the Very Gay Raptor pickup in authentic life and take it to the streets of Cologne, Germany, in celebration of Pride Day.
Results / According to the agencies, the campaign reached 22 million people and resulted in 184 million media impressions.
