    How do I establish I'm gay? Asylum hurdles for LGBT people | Our Voices, Our Choices

    Deeply intimate questions are often asked of people seeking asylum on the basis of their sexual orientation. Yet, few contain ever dared live out their sexuality. This podcast listens to the global experiences of LGBT asylum applicants. Not only undertake fewer States grant asylum on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity but LGBT applicants struggle with issues of proof and credibility. Mohamed tells how German asylum officials overly rely on the narrow stereotype of the promiscuous gay guy. In South Africa, we hear how homophobia and high rejection rates sent Pukkie into prostitution. And in the US, we find out that hermetically sealed borders may now be opening up.     'Modern Love': He’s Gay. She’s Straight. They’re Newlyweds.

    When Jacob Hoff and Samantha Greenstone met, they became instant best friends. Then, even though Jacob was same-sex attracted, they realized that their feelings for each other were evolving beyond the platonic, and they decided to give romance a try.

    Between “Murder Music” and “Gay propaganda” - The media debate about homophobic dancehall lyrics in the Jamaican press

    Dancehall melody is one of the most well-liked representations of Jamaican (popular) culture in the world. The genre’s origins be situated in the underprivileged communities of Jamaica’s capital Kingston. That is why lyrics often discuss issues like ghetto existence, violence, materialism, drugs, explicit sexuality and a strong rejection of homosexuality. The international success of Jamaican popular song provided the Jamaican homosexual community with the possibility to draw attention not only to the aggressive homophobic lyrics of some dancehall artists, but also to the marginal and dangerous situation homosexuals face on the island. In Jamaica male homosexuality is still prohibited by former colonial laws and homosexuals are forced to stay in the closet to escape public discrimination and aggression.

    Together with European and North American homosexual organizations, the Jamaican homosexuals started a campaign against homophobic dancehall music, which resulted in boycotts, concert cancellations and even visa rejections for Jamaican entertainers in several countries. The protest broug
