    Not As Trashy As Expected

    Much like other sexploitation films of this period, looking back on them can be quaint. They have plenty of nudity, but it's not as if they ever get into hardcore sex. This adaptation of Dorian Gray promises tons of sex and depravity, but its fairly chaste when all is said and done. What's most surprising about it is that it's not a half bad adaptation of the Oscar Wilde story from which it's based.

    Helmut Berger plays Dorian Gray, an impossibly beautiful young male who falls for an actress named Sybil, but as he starts to make it way up

    I have a really hard time reading classics. The people who are represented in them are so wildly unlike from today's existence (from my actual world, at least) that I have a really hard age trying to not be annoyed throughout the book. Everyone is so overly dramatic: the women keep fainting, people are always in each other's houses (I would detest living back then)... every little thing that happens is a story for days... So, in reality, to my eyes (and not wanting to obtain classic lovers angry) every single "classic book" look, and sounds, the identical to me.

    This manual is a small bit different. Oscar Wilde combines the cliches of classic books with the horror and mystical aspect of a fantasy story, and I really enjoyed that. I already knew Dorian Gray's story: the guy that never ages and has a picture that keeps getting older, but I didn't perceive this much. I enjoyed discovering the madness behind Gray's actions, the things that he does, to himself and others, without taking any responsibility. On one hand I wish I knew what kind of "magic" is behind the painting; on the other hand this gives another coat of mystery to the book.

    I have a couple of questions still:
    * Why is every characte

    Wilde about the boy

    The darkly amoral Oscar Wilde novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray" is one of my favourites and naturally lends itself to both theatrical and cinematic dramatisations with its gripping story-line and sharply-drawn characters. This latest adaptation takes some liberties with the story-line in giving a achievable reason for Dorian Gray's headlong dive into hedonism in the form of a bullying father who locked and beat his young self in the attic where he's forced to hide the offending portrait, introduces Henry Wotton's daughter as a passion interest and moves the action on in second to the First Society War, although the cause is so strong, I don't think it needs embellishment.

    The Gothic element in the story is frankly maxed out as Doran descends the slippery slope to corruption, in short order corrupting a young actress who falls in love with him, deflowering a young virgin at her coming-out ball (and her mother too!) indulge in a lgbtq+ act with his creator friend, before bottoming out with outright murder. These scenes are lurid in their depiction and justifiable I suppose in displaying the levels of depr

    A Gothic tale by Oscar Wilde,
    adapted by Merlin Holland and John O’Connor

    The Picture of Dorian Gray is the story of one attractive, innocent young man‘s seduction, moral corruption, and eventual downfall. And, oh yeah: it‘s also the story of a really creepy painting. Set in the Victorian London, the story follows a handsome, childish Dorian Gray whose portrait is painted by a close friend. Disturbed that his physical beauty will deteriorate with age, Dorian wishes for a Faustian exchange whereby he will retain his beauty but the picture will age. His wish granted, the picture rather than the man degrades as he pursues a life of hedonism and debauchery, reminding him that though his looks are unscathed, his soul is not. Can he still have salvation or is his mind trapped in the doomed painting?

    The Picture of Dorian Gray erzählt von Verführung, Verderben und Untergang. Im viktorianischen London wird der gut aussehende, unschuldige, junge Dorian Gray von einem Freund porträitiert. Das Gemälde weckt in Dorian Gray cease Angst vor seiner Vergänglichkeit. Um diesem Schicksal zu en
