Did disney cancel the owl house because it was gay

Disney has done it again. I pardon them for a lot of things, either out of nostalgic fondness or because I think that their mistakes reflect broader problems with the amusement industry. However, there is one thing which I view at and can only think, “Yeah, you messed up”, and that is TheOwl House (TOH).

I would argue that TOH (along with Amphibia) represents the proud legacy of Gravity Falls (GF) — both shows are created by veteran GF story boarders and film the same fantastical vibes and wacky sense of humour, while still creature exceptional in their own way. TOH, created by Dana Terrace, is about fourteen-year-old Luz Noceda, a quirky fantasy fangirl who stumbles upon a door to a magical otherworld, where she moves in with a sassy, forty-something witch called Eda and a dog-like demon called King (voiced by Alex Hirsch, the creator of GF). The reveal follows Luz’s adventures as she learns magic, forms meaningful friendships, and experiences first love.

TOH is engaging and amusing, cleverly satirising and reimagining every trope associated with otherworlds, witches, and schools of magic. The main trio — Luz, Eda, and King — are a near-flawl

The Owl House is So Gay, and I Cherish It

Mina Himlie, online publishing coordinator

Disney’s show The Owl House is gay, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. I mean it’s one of the best shows in the world because of the canon women-loving-women (WLW) representation.

Luz Noceda, a human, began the illustrate by avoiding a summer camp to make her more “normal” by accidentally entering a weird, magical realm full of witches and demons called the Boiling Isles where everything is deadly – but in a fun way. If you’ve seen Gravity Falls, it has the same vibes.

As season one progresses it becomes clear that Luz Noceda is bisexual, and Dana Terrace, the show’s creator, confirmed her bisexuality on Twitter. Now, we know that sometimes creators like the infamous JK Rowling contain used Twitter to validate things that may or may not be reflected in the art, but Luz is clearly written to be bisexual, writing that is all the more authentic and truthful given that Terrace is bisexual herself. Luz is shown to have an interest in men and to have a massive crush on a teen named Amity Blight, who later canonically becomes her girlfriend.

Amity starts out as a cold, mean ethics. But over the cou

Why Disney Canceled The Owl House

When The Owl House debuted on Disney in January 2020, the animated series received nearly unanimous praise. Not only was The Owl House seen as imaginative and original content, but the series was also applauded for its operate of multiple Gay characters in its storyline. That included principal protagonist Luz Noceda who develops a relationship with one of the show's other main characters, Amity Blight. As of the end of 2023, the first two seasons hold a rare rating of 100% on Corrupted Tomatoes' Tomatometer, and consistently posted lofty ratings according to the streaming aggregator JustWatch. However, its stellar critical acclaim and copious awards were not enough to prevent The Owl House from getting canceled. The consternation among fans was palpable, particularly among the LGBT+ community, who rightfully saw it as a big step forward in representation.

The good news is that the exhibit was allowed to complete its story arc with a third and closing season consisting of three 44-minute specials designed to tie up the lingering plot thread. The first special aired in October 2022 and the remaining two specials aired in 2023. But that’s n

Disney dropped the first of its final three mega-episodes of The Owl House over the weekend and it was everything fans could have hoped for — especially us Queer pals. When season two was at its finish, our ragtag band of youthful witches battled Belos on the Day of Unity and ended up trapped in the human realm, on Camila Noceda’s doorstep. “Thanks to Them” should have been ten episodes, but because Disney pulled the plug on the beloved series way too soon, showrunner Dana Terrace and her team had to pack a whole heck of a lot into one sitting, and they did it beautifully. There’s Luz & Co. getting settled into the Noceda’s home with Vee, Luz and Tracker dealing with the things they learned about themselves in the finale, Luz coming out and introducing her mom to Amity, brainstorming ways to unseal a portal back to the Boiling Isles, solving the mystery of the artifacts Phillip and Caleb left behind, and then a BIG BAD BOSS FIGHT. It’s swoony and heartbreaking and nuanced and smart and hilarious and — did I speak of heartbreaking? Because it’s heartbreaking!

I don’t want to overindulge too much. I comprehend a lot of people have to wait for D

Disney Executive Tried To Block Queer Characters In ‘The Owl House,’ Says Creator

Cartoon Network executives aren’t the only ones to contain resisted queer representation in family animation. The originator of The Owl House, which is currently running on Disney Channel, has revealed the difficulties she faced after proposing same-sex attracted and bi characters for a recent episode.

Dana Terrace took to Twitter to explain: “In dev I was very open about my intention to place queer kids in the main cast. I’m a horrible liar so sneaking it in would’ve been hard haha. When we were greenlit I was told by certain Disney leadership that I could NOT represent any create of bi or homosexual relationship on the Channel.”

She added, “I’m bi! I want to write a bi character, dammit! Luckily my stubbornness paid off and now I am VERY supported by current Disney leadership.”

The episode in question, “Enchanting Grom Fright,” aired on August 8. It suggests a budding romantic relationship between two female characters: Luz, the show’s protagonist, and her classmate Amity.

Terrace’s comments were echoed by Alex Hirsch, creator of Gravity Falls, which ran on Disney Channel and Disney XD from 2012 to 2016.
