What is Radical Hospitality?

Grounded in the conviction that all individuals are created in the image of God, we hug the call to welcome and affirm the dignity of every human creature. Inspired by Jesus’ radical inclusivity, as Episcopalians we aspire to create communities where everyone feels valued, admired, and loved.

How do we practice Radical Hospitality?
First, by creating spaces where diversity is celebrated, and where individuals are invited to convey their whole selves, regardless of their background, culture, or beliefs. This means actively dismantling the barriers that separate us, such as prejudice, discrimination, and exclusion, and replacing them with theradicallove and acceptance that Jesus exemplified.

Radicalhospitality goes beyond the confines of the church walls. It compels us to participate with the broader world, seeking justice and advocating for those who are marginalized and oppressed. This commitment to social transformation is rooted in the belief that every person is a beloved toddler of God, deserving of dignity, compassion, and equity.

Currently, we practice Radical Hospitality through different actions:

Anti-Racism Groups

Affirming.

It is a common media misconception that an attitude of acceptance and cherish for LGBT people and a sincere belief in the message of Jesus Christ are mutually exclusive terms. However, if you look at the number of people in the country that identify as Christian (78 percent) and the number of states that have embraced lgbtq+ marriage and other equivalent rights for LGBT people you will quickly observe that that idea is a statistical impossibility. Plenty of Christians tolerate, passion, and respect LGBTs as equals, just as many LGBTs are people of faith.

As luck would hold it we live in the most diverse metropolis in the United States, and the only one of significant size that sports an openly same-sex attracted mayor (who is also cool enough to honor a transgender metal performer with her own official day, so there). Those who want to bask in the church-y goodness of God's Love possess plenty of options. Or at least ten.
