“It was after that whole ‘Whip My Hair’ thing and I had just stopped doing singing lessons and I was kind of just in this gray area of, ‘Who am I? Do I own a purpose? Is there anything I can do besides this?’ ” Willow said last year. “After the tour and the promotion and all of that, they wanted me to complete my album. And I was enjoy, I’m not gonna do that. And after all of that kinda settled down and it was like a kind of lull, I was just listening to a lot of dusky music. It was just so insane and I was plunged into this black hole, and I was cutting myself.”
A little more than a year after she first spoke about self harm, Willow recently told People that the stress and pressure she felt as she searched for her culture after her song's success led to her self-harm.
“I was super young, and I had a dream, but all I really wanted to do was sing and I didn’t equate that with all the business and the stress that ended up coming with it,” she said.

Willow Smith has shared details of her relationship preferences and sexuality in a fresh post shared online.
The Whip My Hair hitmaker took to Instagram this week to fill out a new chart called "Scale of Me" which has been making its rounds on the popular picture sharing app.
The 23-year-old took time to fill in her answers on a scale, using a sunflower emoji to place it where she most related.
These included her gender, which was placed between genderfluid and female, and her sexuality, which was placed between hetero and bi-pan.
For her relationship preference, the talented singer placed the sunflower emoji closer to poly, between that and open-fluid single.
Willow has previously opened up about organism polyamorous, and first spoke about it in 2021. Polyamory is when those involved are in deal that it's okay for everyone to be in an open relationship, or to have more than one romantic partner.

Willow Smith has revealed she is polyamorous.
The 20-year-old confirmed her relationship status on American talk show Red Table Talk which she hosts alongside her mum Jada Pinkett-Smith and grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Norrison.
Polyamory is where those involved agree it is fine for everyone to be open to or have more than one romantic partner.
Willow said she couldn't see herself wanting to "go past two partners".
"With polyamory, I feel like the main foundation is the independence to be able to create a relationship design that works for you and not just stepping into monogamy because that's what everyone around you says is the right thing to do," she said.
